Short Film: A Process
THE PROCESS OF PAINTING SOUND
BRIEF: For this Digital Narrative Design assignment we were asked to document a process (natural, creative, or otherwise) in one single take, and without dialogue.
This film was informed in a large part by interviews I conducted with my subject throughout the pre-production and revision process. Through these, I developed a deeper understanding of why and how she creates. For example, how her art crosses the line from visual art into performance, and how her compositions read more like the page of a book (the song’s “story” arc unfolding across the canvas), rather than traditional painting (where the composition of the whole is most important). This personal understanding of her art, directly informed the creative decisions behind the film, from what kind of performance I decided to capture to how I constructed the camera movements.
