Academic Explainer Videos

GLOBAL COMPETITION FOR ARCTIC NATURAL RESOURCES
Synthesis of Academic Research by The Security & Political Economy Lab, University of Southern California

BRIEF: From December 2018 – January 2020 I was an animator/illustrator on the video team at the University of Southern California’s Security and Political Economy (SPEC) Lab. My job was to distill complex research projects into easily understandable explainer videos. Starting from a voiceover script developed by other members of my team, I storyboarded original animations down to the beat, created custom vector graphics, and animated these graphics to fit the stylistic goals I created with one of my collaborators, Cameron Kostopoulos. The finished products created by the video team are used as educational materials in University classrooms, and by professors to promote their research and publications.

On the video presented above, I served as lead animator and created all of the visual content, with the only exception being the main title and the final globe animation.

MADE WITH: Illustrator, After Effects, and a sketchbook.
