GUESS? Inc.

VIDEO EDITOR & MOTION DESIGNER

SKILLS USED: Blender, After Effects, CLO3D, Substance Painter, JavaScript, DaVinci Resolve, fSpy, Polycam, Resolume Avenue, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, Meta Spark Studio, Unreal Engine, TouchDesigner, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Here’s some of my favorite work I’ve made as a video editor and motion designer at GUESS Inc!

VFX

Inspired by videos from Jacquemus’ Ian Padgham, I led projects to establish our team’s VFX capabilities. With help from our cinematographer to shoot the plate, and a CLO3D design from our design team, I brought these Godzilla sized Guess jeans to life!

Each VFX shot requires a different workflow usually involving CLO3D, Blender, and After Effects. Here is a summary of my workflow for this video:

  1. Animated a human walk cycle in Blender
  2. Simulated the jeans around this human model in CLO3D
  3. Placed the simulated jeans into Blender, and motion tracked the camera to match our shot
  4. Matched the lighting and camera distortion between Blender and our shot
  5. Tweaked materials and rendered
  6. Performed final masking and compositing in After Effects

To make compositing more accurate, I’ll often use HDRI captures from a 360 camera, 3D scans of the environment using Polycam, shots of a color matcher card from all the cameras involved, and a variety of plugins – especially from the Red Giant suite.

3D Animation

For our 2024 Winter campaign, I froze two of our jacket designs in (digital) ice! I made this fully procedural effect using Blender geometry and material nodes.

At Complexcon 2024, we hosted an activation for Don Toliver’s Hardstone clothing line, designed by GUESS. I made this bumper animation to go in between each promo video played on the booth windows.

I modeled the logo based on a design that Hardstone provided. A majority of the background elements are from Blenderkit models which I deconstructed and animated.

I made the left animation as an idle loop for all of the TVs at our Guess Jeans Coachella 2024 activation. The right side is a rough draft of an alternate concept I made.

I made these teaser videos for Babylon, a skate brand that we frequently collaborate with. The prompt they gave was “something involving a black Babylon box”. I drafted up a concept about the box having supernatural qualities, and incorporated elements from their previous videos (found footage, objects mysteriously on fire, grungy textures) to make my final animations.

Event Videography

At our many events throughout the year, you are likely to spot me running around getting clips of the action!

Sound

I also create sound design for our campaigns and social media videos! Here are a few of my favorites featuring custom sounds that I synthesized in Vital.

Here’s an example of what I can do under time pressure. I completed the sound for this video in under 3 hours!

I also produce music for campaigns, like this one with Iris Law!
